Getting a home energy audit is the first step to enhance the comfort, health and energy efficiency of your home. A home energy audit assesses how much energy your home consumes and evaluates what measures are needed to maximize your home’s performance. Our building performance experts use the latest in diagnostic testing to conduct a comprehensive home energy audit to inspect the systems to pinpoint your home’s performance issues. Once the analysis is complete we’ll provide you with an accurate and comprehensive report that fully illustrates the performance issues in your home and outlines customized solutions to help you prioritize the repairs and energy improvements needed to maximize your home’s energy performance.
Air Leakage and Air Infiltration Tests
Infrared thermography and a blower door test are used to test air tightness of buildings, estimate natural infiltration rates in homes, and to measure and document the effectiveness of the current air sealing measures. A smoke pencil and blower door test are used to identify air leakage pathways around windows and exterior doors. A visual inspection of vents, ducts and the structural areas that are often pathways of air leakage such as drop soffits and the rim joist.
Insulation Tests
Infared thermography is used to image and evaluate the thermal efficiency and amount of insulation in the walls and other closed spaces of a home or building. A visual inspection of the accessible areas of a home or building determines if there is an adequate amount of insulation and if it is properly installed.
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Tests
The size, condition and age of all HVAC equipment is evaluated to determine if the equipment is operating efficiently. A blower door is used to determine if the ventilation in a home or building meets the Building Airflow Standard (BAS). The BAS is the calculation of measures taken to determine if your home or building has exceeded the house-tightness limit. If a home or building is too air-tight mechanical ventilation rated for continuous operation must be installed as part of the scope of work to ensure adequate air exchange and air quality.
Combustion Appliance Zone (CAZ) Test
A CAZ is a health and safety diagnostic that determines if there is leakage of flammable fuels or combustion gases (i.e. carbon monoxide) into the conditioned spaces of a home or building from natural gas and propane appliances and if they are functioning safely and efficiently.
